I didn't use any pastels on this doll or any other paints other than
acrylics. I started using pastels not that long ago, I first bought an expensive
brand, can't think of the name now & then a bought a cheap brand, can't think of the name
either, I am most likely gonna give up using pastels & just go back to using an airbrush for
blushing. It's harder but I think it looks better. I don't know, I haven't made up my mind yet.
Maybe I just need to find a different method of using pastels. I am still learning with all
the new techniques I see people using. I never thought of using pencils for example, I am
gonna give them a try & see if they make my life easier. I do everything free hand, I work on one
eye at a time & I just copy what I did to the first eye & so forth. Never thought of using dotting tools,
which I just heard recently too. I am learning a lot from my fellow DA Artists. ♥

How are you applying the pastels on your dolls???

I'm using makeup brushes and watercolour brushes to apply the pastels, they seem to pick up the pastels better than other stuff I've tried so far
tell the difference, but these stick better for sure & I
don't know why. The brand I got is called "Artists Loft"
I researched for you, lol, cause I threw away the box.
I believe that's Michaels brand but not totally positive.
I use a Q-tip to apply the pastels on as stated in my tutorial.
It's the best way to do body & facial shading. Just dampen your
Q-tip, rub on it your pastel of choice & onto dolls, you can use the
other end of your Q-tip to blend it in. You don't have to dampen your
Try this without dampening your Q-tip first, you have to rub your
Q-tip pretty hard on the pastels though to pick up color. Hope this helps. ♥
q-tip? wow really! woah lol I tried with a q-tip and i felt it was too bulky at times, I wonder if i can buy smaller q tips rather than tearing em apart lol And are you rubbing them directly on the pastels? I was scratching off the powder of the pastels with an x-acto knife, though that might waste a lot actually >_>

it really just takes practice & getting used to it.
I was using regular cotton swabs @ the beggining which still
worked great, but now I am using smaller ones with less cottong on
either end, you can also try buying the Q-tips for removing mess up's while
applying eye make-up, they are pointy instead of round.
Another option is try some eyeshadow make-up sponges,
(at least that's exactly what they looked like) I saw some at Michaels.
I haven't try them because Q-tips work great for me.
